Picking one
Self-serve, cloud or negotiated
AI data marketplaces split three ways. Cloud marketplaces from AWS, Snowflake and Databricks sell to buyers already on those platforms and deliver the data inside them. Self-serve marketplaces like Opendatabay let buyers check out with a card, with a sliding commission.
Negotiated marketplaces like FileYield and Nomad Data put you in touch with a buyer and let the two of you set the terms. That fits large or sensitive datasets, where exclusivity and permitted use matter more than a list price.
- Buyers on one cloud: list where they already buy.
- Small, standard datasets: self-serve checkout.
- Large or sensitive data: negotiate each license.
Rather sell than list?
